It was a historic day Wednesday at Senator Joyce Fairbairn Middle School.

Fairbairn staff and students celebrated the school’s inaugural closing assembly and awards ceremony, as seven students took home the Senator Joyce Fairbairn Medal of Honour.

This awards aims to honour Senator Fairbairn’s dedication to and tireless work in making the world a better place.

“She is a special human being whose actions and decisions are rooted in, and inseparable from, who she is at heart: hard working, determined, strategic and strong,” said Fairbairn principal Bill Bartlett. “Not only was she a trailblazer for women in the fields of communications and politics, she was also a fierce advocate for the underprivileged, a leader in the truest sense of the word and an invested promoter of literacy.”
