Social Studies and Science Project Challenge Assignments
The social studies and science curriculum has had a great deal of success over the past month. Students have been completing multiple curricular projects focused on the Olympic Games with a concept-based learning approach. Fairbairn staff is very impressed with the large number of medal winning submissions.
Beginning April 28th all three grade Project Challenge groups will be completing the social studies curriculum for the 2019/2020 school year. Grade six students will complete four assignments explaining Ancient Athens and the origins of modern democracy. Canadian Aboriginal, economic and immigration history between 1867 and 1914 will guide the four grade seven project assignments. Grade eight students will study and complete four assignments that examine the isolation and adaptation of Japan from the Edo period to Meiji Restoration.
Students should budget three to five hours for the social studies assignments over the next four weeks.
The remainder of the science curriculum will be the focus for the 4 projects scheduled to begin May 25th.
